MATCH REPORT

DEVON & EXETER LEAGUE SENIOR ONE

SATURDAY 20 OCTOBER 2007

OTTERTON  2
v
BUDLEIGH SALTERTON  3

Budleigh made the short trip to local rival's Otterton and came away with three hard earned point's. From the off this was another scrappy derby game and Budleigh had to battle hard to contain a strong Otterton side. Somewhat against the run of play Budleigh took the lead midway through the first half when David Evans twenty yard strike flew in. Then on the stroke of half time Otterton scored from a fine free kick to go in all square.

After the restart Otterton came out and applied good pressure down the slope and Simon Tulley put the hosts in front with a well taken finish. Budleigh then rode their luck for the next ten minutes and were lucky not to be punished. The management trio of, Freer, Shepard and Sidney then earned their crust by putting on Simon Rose and Kirk Owen, and this seemed to bring Budleigh to life. With time running out it was left for Rose to challenge the keeper and the ball looped out to Ian Mortimore whose first time volley flew in with ten minutes left. This seemed to lift the whole side and from then on it was all one way traffic. From Mortimore's next corner skipper Carl Everest popped up at the back post to head home with five minutes remaining. Then it was a case of seeing out time which Budleigh did. This win keeps Budleigh top of the league but Otterton were unlucky not to get a draw. Next week it's home at last verses Exeter University.
