MATCH REPORT

DEVON & EXETER LEAGUE, SENIOR ONE

SATURDAY 6 OCTOBER 2007

NEWTOWN 1 v BUDLEIGH SALTERTON   4

Budleigh kicked off this game expecting a very tough encounter, but every single player was outstanding as Budleigh produced some stunning football.  Somehow the hosts kept it goal less until half time despite Budleigh creating chances at will and the Newtown keeper pulling off several outstanding saves.

After the break it was Simon Rose who made the break through with a clever back flick into the top corner.  The lead was short lived as Newtown came right back within a minute to level.  This just seemed to move Budleigh up another gear and the next thirty minutes produced some of the best football of the season.  Karl Rickard restored the lead with a neat finish, then Carl Everest scored with another trade mark strike.  Ian Mortimore then went close and forced the Newtown keeper into several more close range saves.  Craig Higham's bullit header sealed the win with seven minutes remaining after another quality cross from Mortimore down the left.  Credit must go to all the team for producing such a good all round team display.  Man of the match could have gone to any one of the Budleigh players, but yet again it was Karl Rickard who just shaded it.

Next week Budleigh travel to Exeter Civil Service in the cup and will be looking to test themselves againts the leaders of the premier.
