MATCH REPORT

DEVON & EXETER LEAGUE - SENIOR ONE

SATURDAY 22 MARCH 2008

WESTEXE (0)  0
v
BUDLEIGH SALTERTON   (1) 3

Playing into a very strong head wind Budleigh put in a solid first half and young keeper Brad Evans kicking was first class throughout. Scott Howarth was fed out wide from Kirk Owen, his cross was just flicked on by Craig Higham and Simon Rose squared for Scott Thornhill to fire home after ten minutes. Aaron Poulton and Rich Higham were having solid games in midfield and the tempo was very good from the whole side. For the rest of the half Westexe battled hard to contain Simon Rose and David Evans who were proving far too hot to handle.

The second half started with the wind behind Budleigh and they camped inside their opponent's box for the rest of the game. Rose was released down the right and his fine pull back was struck hard and low into the bottom corner by Evans on the hour mark. Tony Pallett then made it three when a close range finish was deflected home with twenty minutes left. On the whole this was a fine team performance for Budleigh's 18th league game in a row unbeaten. Simon Rose was man of the match but many pushed him close.
