MATCH REPORT

DEVON & EXETER LEAGUE SENIOR ONE

SATURDAY 23 FEBRUARY 2008

BUDLEIGH SALTERTON  (1)  1
v
OTTERTON (0) 0

Budleigh welcomed high flying Otterton to Greenway Lane expecting a really tough derby game. Both team's lined up playing 4-4-2 and the first chance fell to Scott Thornhill who fired over. Chances were few and far between with Budleigh's defence of Bradshaw, Everest, Pallett and Craig Higham all outstanding throughout to keep Otterton's Tulley and Pitts quiet. Budleigh took the lead after 30 minutes when Everest fired in a fine free kick and left back Craig Higham lobbed the keeper from a tight angle for his seventh goal of the season. The remainder of the half was a real midfield battle with Budleigh just shading it.

The second half was time for Otterton to put lots of pressure on Keeper Noel Pond who was starting his first game of 2008 but he made two great saves and when Budleigh did break Rose fired just over when well placed. Thornhill cleared a corner off the line midway through the half and Budleigh held on for a fine win. As derby's go this one was played in good spirit by two hard working sides.
