MATCH REPORT
DEVON & EXETER LEAGUE SENIOR ONE
SATURDAY 2 FEBRUARY 2008
| BUDLEIGH SALTERTON (1) 4 | v |
SEATON (0) 1 |
Budleigh entertained Seaton Town, looking to make it 15 games unbeaten in a promotion six pointer. In a scrappy first half Budleigh had several chances to take the lead after Scott Howarth played in Simon Rose twice, and both times he failed to test the keeper. Andy Bennett also had a Scott Thornhill corner planted firmly on his head but his header was cleared off the line. Bennett did open the scoring when his fine header flew in the top left hand corner from another quality Thornhill corner.
After the half-time break Scott Howarth received a straight red and then the ten men were up against it. With forty minutes left to play Simon Rose got the vital second when his pace got him clear and he tapped it wide of the keeper only to run onto his own pass and slot home like the famous Pele attempt (Pele missed his). Budleigh were now flying and Rich Higham finished with aplomb after good work from Alvin Pollard out wide to put Budleigh three up. Rose then made it fourteen from thirteen starts with ten minutes remaining. Seaton scored a late consolation and did strike a post later still, but on the whole Budleigh ran out deserved winners. Next week Budleigh have no fixture but return to league action away to Alphington on Saturday 16th February. Man of the match was Andy Bennett with Simon Rose pushing him close.
