MATCH REPORT

DEVON & EXETER LEAGUE SENIOR ONE

SATURDAY 22 DECEMBER 2007

CULM  3   (1)
v
BUDLEIGH SALTERTON  (1)  3

Budleigh's ten men deserve great credit for coming back from Culm with a point and keeping their eleven match unbeaten run going. David Evans opened the scoring after twenty minutes when Scott Howarth crossed and he rounded the keeper to slot home. Brad Evans in goal pulled off two fantastic saves to keep the lead but was beaten on the stroke of half time from close range.

The game turned 1 minute into the second half when Brett Wright struck a post and Howarth tapped home the rebound. The ref gave the goal and despite the linesman’s flag shook his head and said goal, then he went over and after a short talk gave off side. Howarth was then shown a straight red for dissent. Scott Thornhill's pace then took him clear down the left and he cut in to smash his shot into the roof of the net. The ref then gave a penalty for Culm’s equaliser and they then took the lead with twenty minutes remaining. Wright, Lavis and Bradshaw were subbed off and on came Wicks, Mortimore and Tweedie to give the ten men fresh energy. Craig Higham then burst through and the last man chopped him down on the edge of the box. Somehow the ref did not even show a card. Tweedie was making a real impact in the middle and nearly scored but it was left to David Evans to score a screamer from 18 yards out three minutes into stoppage time.

Man of the match David Evans, but Aaron Poulton and Brad Evans pushed him close.
