MATCH REPORT

DEVON & EXETER LEAGUE SENIOR ONE

SATURDAY 24 NOVEMBER 2007

BUDLEIGH SALTERTON  (1) 1
v
EXETER ST THOMAS  (0)  0

This win was Budleigh's eighth win in a row and put's them seven point's clear again. On a very cold and windy day at Greenway Lane Budleigh welcomed David Evans, Scott Thornhill, Tim Nield and club captain Andy Bennett into their side. Despite a lot of early pressure and long periods camped in the St Thomas half, the hosts could not break through and found the away keeper in fine form. Eventually a Scott Howarth corner was smashed home by an away defender after good pressure from Tim Nield.

The second half continued in much the same format as the first, and Bennett was unlucky not to score from another good corner. Scott Thornhill really should have sealed the win after twice bursting clear and twice firing wide, and despite more pressure St Thomas kept it to one nil. On the day Budleigh were happy with the three points and sometimes credit must be given to the away side for some fine defending. Next week Budleigh are home to Newtown with a 3pm Kick Off.
