Budleigh surprised Clyst Rovers when straight from the kick off they got the ball out to the right where Danny Williams found some space, cut into the corner of the 18 yard box and fired a shot across Nick Moyse into the far corner of the net., to make it 1 – 0 after just 33 seconds. The rest of the half became a bit of a stalemate with neither side creating any real scoring chances.
After 21 minutes of the second half a quick break caught the Robins defence and allowed Tim Credland to slot the ball past Chris Wright to level the score at 1 – 1 forcing extra time.
3 minutes in and Williams had a shot cleared off the line, it fell to Jamie Densham who hit the side netting from a tight angle. Then a long clearance from Chris Wright fell for Danny Burwood to slot in off the post from 18 yards giving Budleigh a 2 – 1 lead.
The second period of extra time was under way for just 3 minutes when another long clearance created another goal. This time it was Cridland who again slotted past Chris Wright from 18 yards to make it 2 – 2. But not to be outdone Budleigh fought back and 5 minutes later restored their lead when Stuart Francis lifted a high ball into the Clyst penalty area. Keeper Moyse parried and Alvin Pollard hooked the loose ball over the keeper and defender to make it a 3 – 2 win. In the next round Budleigh will be at home to Holsworthy.
