F.A.VASE - SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND

SATURDAY 22 SEPTEMBER 2007

BUDLEIGH SALTERTON  4 (1) v BODMIN TOWN 1 (0)

BYRNE 23, 110
SAUNDERS 112
WRIGHT 118

O'HAGAN 55

Budleigh took a 1 - 0 lead on 23 minutes when a long clearance from Chris Wright fell to Jamie Mudge who set up Matt Byrne to shoot from 18 yards.  The visitors squandered several chances to draw level, either by poor finishing, or good saves by Chris Wright.  Budleigh wnet close to increasing their lead just before half time when Anthony Osbourne hooked the ball over the cross bar from close range, and Brett Wright hit the side netting froma tight angle.

About 7 minutes into the second half a mistake by Darren Garner saw him head strongly back to his own keeper who had moved out behind the defender.  The keeper was able to recover and just get a hand to stop it going in.  On 55 minutes the Budleigh defence failed to clear a loose ball on the 6 yard line and Danny O'Hagan touched it in for 1 - 1.  Shaun Manley should have given the visitors the lead 5 minutes later but somehow managed to head over from close range.  With 2 minutes remaining Anthony Osbourne's cross from the right fell to Mudge who put it just the wrog side of the post.

The first period of extra time did not produce any clear scoring chances for either side.  All change in the second period when, in the space of 8 minutes Budleigh fired into a 4 - 1 lead.  First off was Matt Byrne chipping the keeper from 8 yards, before supplying the corner kick which Neil Saunders headed home.  Then a superb long strike from Brett Wright ended the scoring and rounded off an excellent display.

Budleigh will now be at home to Plymouth Parkway in round 1 proper on 6 October, 3pm kick off.
