STOKE GABRIEL (0)  1

Budleigh’s first league defeat of the season came today at the hands of Stoke Gabriel. A very scrappy and physical first half saw some porr officiating and the home side wasting good chances. The first of these came on 15 minutes Matt Byrne’s free kick floated into the 18 yard box only for David Wilkes to head over the bar from close range. Byrne then missed a chance when after breaking clear of the Stoke defence he shot straight at keeper Mark Coombe.

After 6 minutes of the second half another strange decision saw Stoke awarded a free kick on the edge of the box when, to all around it seemed the Stoke defender was brought down by one of his own players. Budleigh then changed their formation, pushing Andy Bennett forward and bringing Carl Everest into the defence. On 80 minutes a poor clearance put the Robins defence under pressure. Chris Wright saved a shot at point blank range only to see the ball fall for Cameron Kelly to score from close in. For the remainder of the game Budleigh applied considerable pressure but could not break down the visitors who hung on for a 1 – 0 victory.
