It was a rather uneventful opening period with neither keeper being troubled. It was not until 26 minutes the spectators had anything to resembling goal mouth action. The visiting keeper, Robert Malcolm, fumbled a deep cross only to be relieved when one of his defenders cleared off the line. The visitors then had a chance to take the lead. Steven Williams got clear of the Budleigh Salterton defence but was denied by a good tackle from Martyn Kelland. Budleigh’s best chance came right on 45 minutes when a shot from David Wilkes was blocked by the keeper’s outstretched leg.
Within 4 minutes of the re-start Budleigh were 2 – 0 up. Firstly the visiting defence failed to clear and Matt Byrne fired in from 18 yards. The same player was then brought down in the box, and Danny Williams converted the resulting spot kick. The remainder of the half faded away with very little action to excite.
This was a complete contrast to the mid week game against Newton Abbot which saw Budleigh 2 goals down at half time, only to come back in the second half. Goals from Danny Williams (Penalty) and Danny Hall (2) saw Budleigh claim all three points.
