MATCH REPORT
SOUTH WEST PENISNSULA LEAGUE - DIVISION ONE (EAST)
SATURDAY 25 AUGUST 2007
| UNIVERSITY 1 (0) | v | BUDLEIGH SALTERTON 2 (2) |
| ROBBINS (Pen) 55 | HALL 8 WILLIAMS (Pen) 40 |
Despite what has been said about this being an under strength University side at this time of the year, any side visiting their large Tospham Road pitch will find it extremely difficult to get a result. As the Robins found on this very hot Saturday afternoon. Budleigh started well and on 6 minutes had Stuart Francis breaking down the left flank. He laid the ball back to Danny Williams whose cross was well met by Danny Hall to head in the opening goal. The hosts only created one real chance when Ben Chow was free on the edge of the box. His weak shot was easily saved by Chris Wright in the Budleigh goal. On 40 minutes Jamie Densham was brought down in the box by the home keeper (Chris Williams). The resulting penalty was put away by the Budleigh Williams (Danny) although the keeper got a hand to it but could not stop it. The first half had been entertaining, end to end football.
The second half continued as the first, and after 10 minutes Chris Wright in the Budleigh goal brought down Sam Hughes in the area, rather needlessly. The resulting penalty was easily converted by Nick Robbins. On 66 minutes Budleigh should have increased their lead when a cross from Danny Hall to the back of the 6 yard box was met by Joel Hawes who headed just wide of the target. Hall also went close 6 minutes later when his free kick from 20 yards was tipped over the bar in spectacular fashion. There were no more real chances of note for either side, in spite of the match referee adding an extra ten minutes to the normal 45.
Budleigh:-
C.Wright, N Pointing, N Saunders, S Francis, A Bennett, M Kelland, M Byrne,
J Hawes, D Williams, J Densham, D Hall

I was able to get to this game and was very impressed by the University side. They played good passing football from the back to the front all through the game, were well organised, and in all honesty did not deserve to go down. If it was a depleted side then they will be a real force when they are up to full strength.
