The opening 15 minutes of the game was void of too much goal mouth action, apart from one shot from Stoke’s Liam Macauly which Chris Wright saved. On the half hour Liam Mosely wasted another chance after slipping past Neil Saunders only to shoot well wide of the target. Budleigh took a 1 – 0 lead on 38 minutes. A corner from Stuart Francis was flicked on and fell for Danny Williams to slot in from 6 yards.

4 minutes into the second half Williams again went close heading Neil Pointing’s cross against the post. Jamie Densham made it 2 – 0 when a mistake in the home defence allowed him to steal in and fire past Mark Combs. Stoke pulled it back to 2 – 1 when Robbie Herrora floated ina free kick for Mosely to touch in from close range. Stoke were reduced to 10 men when captain Owen Williams was sent off and, chasing a result, were outnumbered on each counter attack. This eventually led to the third Budleigh goal. Firstly Williams, having gone clear on goal fired a shot straight at the keeper, and then new boy Ashley Barker raced clear of the defence and chipped over the keeper from 18 yards for a 3 – 1 victory.
