Last Saturday’s league programme was washed out. However on Wednesday 5 November the Robins played SW Peninsula Premier league side Holsworthy in the Throgmorton Cup.
Budleigh took the game to the visitors with some fast flowing football. Danny Hall and Neil Pointing both brought the best out of Dean Chidley, the visiting keeper, forcing two good saves in the opening 30 minutes. Holsworthy’s best chance came when Steve Smeeth’s shot was well saved by Chris Wright in the home goal.
Four minutes into the second half and again Hall tested Chidley with a good strike from 18 yards. But it was Jamie Densham who broke the deadlock when he chased onto a long clearance and fired a shot from 18 yards. Chidley got a hand to it but could not keep it out. On 75 minutes Smeeth again went close with a close range shot which glanced off the outside of the upright.
Budleigh finished the stronger of the teams and held on to the 1 – 0 score line to take them into the quarter finals of this league cup.
