SOUTH WEST PENISNSULA LEAGUE - DIVISION ONE (EAST)

SATURDAY 3 NOVEMBER 2007

BUDLEIGH SALTERTON   0 v EXMOUTH   0

Budleigh Salterton dropped their first league points of the season in this local derby, this being the first time the two sides have met in the league for many years. The first goal scoring opportunity came after 15 minutes when a shot from 20 yards by Danny Hall was deflected for a corner. Matt Byrne headed the incoming corner kick over the bar. Another chance was missed on 25 minutes when a long throw in by Stuart Francis was headed across the face of the goal by Hall just beyond the outstretched leg of Danny Williams. Exmouth could have taken the lead on 35 minutes when Ben Shepherd had a clear header from a corner but put it over the bar. Right on half time a long run by Neil Pointing from the half way line ended with a shot across the face of the goal narrowly missing the far post.

Budleigh went close with two more chances at the start of the second half when Hall hit the post with a header and Pointing had another shot deflected just over the bar. One of the best flowing moves of the game came on 70 minutes when Brett Wright picked up the ball in midfield and put Pointing clear on the right wing. his cross through the 6 yard box went just beyond Williams coming in at the back post. Budleigh’s two subs combined well with the last scoring chance with just a couple of minutes remaining. Joel Hawes cross in saw Alvin Pollard head just wide of Tim Thorne’s left hand post.
