BOVEY TRACEY  3  (1) v BUDLEIGH SALTERTON 2(2)

JONES 22
FRENCH 51
BENNETT 89

WILLIAMS 20
HALL  25

Once again Budleigh Salterton paid the price of being too complacent against a side from a lower division. They should have taken the lead after 5 minutes when Danny Williams fired a shot over the bar. He made amends 15 minutes later slotting in a cross from the right wing at the far post. The lead was short lived as a floated free kick was headed in by Chris Jones to make it 1 – 1. It took only 2 minutes for Budleigh to regain their lead when Bovey keeper Tom Brooks made his only mistake of the game, letting the ball slip through his hands which allowed Joel Hawes to tap in off the post before the keeper could retrieve the ball.

The second half was 6 minutes old when Lee French chased onto a long clearance over the Budleigh defence and slotted in from 18 yards to level the score again. Budleigh then missed several chances to win the game when good work by sub Alvin Pollard set up Danny Williams to cross from the left for Danny Hall to shoot. Somehow Brooks managed to tip this one over the bar. Hall then had another chance but this time his shot came back off the post. The game was heading for extra time, just a minute to go, when Chris Bennett ran onto another long ball through the Budleigh defence and fired past Chris Wright to give the home side a 3 – 2 win.

The Robins return to league action next Saturday, with a local derby against Exmouth Town at Greenway Lane. Kick Off at 2.45pm.
