4 February 2012

First team game at Newton Abbot Spurs is postponed because of a frozen pitch.

15 January 2012

Budleigh Ladies made the long trip to Bideford and beat them 3 - 0, making up for the disappointment of the home defeat last month. I have updated their league table, not always possible because their league website is often well behind.

14 January 2012

First win of the year, home to Newton Abbot Spurs.  Budleigh 1 - 0 Spurs. The solitary goal came after about 5 minutes, very well taken.  Perhaps by half time we should have had another 1 or 2, but it wasn't to be, anbd the one was enough thanks to some resolute defending.

Reserves had a tough one at Topsham and went down 2 - 0.

2012

The losing run continues into the new year with a home defeat to Galmpton, but at least we only conceded 4 goals today!

End of 2011

First team concede another 5 goals at Alphington.  At least we got 2 ourselves.  16 goals conceded in 4 games.

Reserves lose by the odd goal in an 11 goal thriller at Seaton.

17 December 2011

Budleigh 2 - 1 Sidmouth.  Carr and Williams with the goals.

Three things to remember please, all for next Saturday, 17 December.

1. Kick off time against Sidmouth is 2.15pm

2. The raffle for the Manchester United shirt, signed by this season's squad (Rio TWICE), will be drawn during the evening.  If you have not bought a ticket (£1 each) please do so, or buy another one or two.......

3. The Xmas draw and carol singing will commence at about 7.30pm.  Just 25 pence a go and all the money taken is used to buy prizes - there are lots of them.

10 December 2011

First team go down at Liverton, 5 - 0.            Reserves win 1 - 0 for second week running, this time against Hatherleigh, brilliant.

We have a slight problem with two adjacent floodlight pylons not producing power to one of the two bulbs.  For the next two Saturdays we may have to move kick off to 2.15pm.

As soon as I know anything definite I will post it here.

3 December 2011

First team gain a point at Okehampton 1 - 1 and were unlcuky not to win.  Reserves beat East Budleigh 1 - 0 so have taken 4 points from our neighbours.

26 November 2011

First team gain some revenge for the first game defeat at Teignmouth.  By the only goal of the game scored by Carr on about 15 minutes we took all 3points.  The congratulations must go to the team for some heroic deending, at times under enormous pressure, and for long periods.

Reserves go down, again by the odd goal in 5.

24 November 2011

We sometimes complain about how the fixtures  pan out for our men's teams.  Have just done the ladies fixtures for January.  All four games are away, a couple with long trips.  Perhaps we should stop complaining...................

19 November 2011

The Next Games page takes us to the end of the year.  Note kick off time for the Alphington (Away) game on 31 December is showing as 11.30am.

First team go down by 2 - 0 at Totnes & Dartington.  Reserves are held by Clyst Valley with no score at Greenway.

League sedcretary will try to find us a fixture but cannot do so until cup results are known.

23 October 2011

Ladies page updated to show league table and some fixtures.  Our Ladies beat Exmouth Ammies, 2 - 1.

22 October 2011

First team go down 3 - 0 to table topping Okehampton.  More details when I get the report but I thought the first two goals were against the run of play, certainly both were after a spell of sustained Budleigh pressure.   The third goal came when the visitors had been reduced to 10 men and had taken control of the game.

Reserves battle to a 2 - 2 draw at East Budleigh.  Howarth and Pannell on target.  (That sounds like a quote from many years ago).

15 October 2011

First team have a blank date.  reserves win 1 - 0 against Willand.  Mark lever the goal scorer from the spot.

12 October 2011

First team get back to winning ways with a comfortable  5 - 2 win over Civil Service.

8 October 2011

The only good news today is that Debs completed her fun run course and her team raised a lot of money for the Air Ambulance.

First team go out of the Devon Premier Cup at Abbotskerswell by 3 - 1 after extra time.  Reserves lose 4 - 0 to previously pointless Heavitree Social.

10 September 2011

Budleigh (0) 1  v.  Barnstaple (4) 4

The visitors  play at two levels above us and, with the strong wind behind them the difference showed in the first half when they took an early two goal lead, doubling this just before half time.  In the second half it was Budleigh who, with the wind at thier backs, looked the more likely to score bt wre faced with some good quality defending from the visitors.  Jack Greenslade pulled one goal back but it was not enough.

On Wednesday we host Exeter University in a league game with a 7.30pm kick off.

4 September 2011

25 August 2011

20 August 2011

First team come unstuck at Teignmouth - Teignmouth 9 - 2 Budleigh (Williams and Bird)

Reserves have a very good win at home - Budleigh 3 - 1 Alphington (Howarth, Thomas & Pannell).  One of the most enterntaining games at Greenway Lane for a while.

17 August 2011 - BICKLEIGH

Very sad to read that Bickleigh have been forced to withdraw from our league.  I cannot find any official reason at the momement, but reading between the lines it appears players have 'walked' to other clubs so it is possibly a financial problem.  One guy up there worked his butt off for that club, he must be gutted as wouold be his wife who gave 100% herself.  I am sure all at BSFC are sorry to read this and if we can help in any way, however small, please tell us.

Youth team fixtures uploaded.

Managers - It has been widely publicised that Danny Williams and Anthony Osborn have taken over the first team management, with John Pannell running the reserves.

The fixture lists have been published, and yet again we seem to have drawn the short straw.  I have only done the home games up to the end of this year, and that is not too bad at all.  The problem kicks in for the second half of the season.  The reserves have just four home games from 1 January to the end of the season, leaving us with a few blank Saturdays.  For a club which relies heavily, if not totally, on income generated in the club house, a blank Saturday is bad news.  Consecutive ones even worse news.  I expect the answer would be that things will change because of postponements, but this season that argument carries little weight.  There is just one blank Saturday to fit in a postponed game.  The reserves have seven consecutive away games from the begining of March.  Before anybody jumps up and down please read the words underneath the football image above, the comments about fixtures are those of the webmaster alone and do not originate from the club.
