re: Reserve Team Spurs Tom writes:-

Following earlier uncertainty, I can report there WILL be a Budleigh Salterton FC Reserves team playing in the Fresha Devon & Exeter League Premier Division in season 2014–2015.  They have been able to assemble a group of players together which includes many of last season’s U16s set up.  Therefore is it a young and somewhat inexperienced squad, but knowing them as I do they will do their level best not to let the club down, writes SpursTom.

They begin the season with an away visit to Chard Town this coming Saturday, followed by a home derby on Wednesday 27th August against Seaton Town (7.30pm k/o), then it’s away again on Saturday 30th August to take on Thorverton.

The new person in charge of the Robins Reserves is no stranger to some of the players for he is last year’s youth team manager Terry Williams, he will be assisted by player Darren Everest.  It is understood that ex-boss Duane Greenslade has agreed to take on the coaching and pass on his experience in the early stages until the pair find their feet.

I shall miss the opening game and some others during September, so Good Luck guys.

Next Up is Saturday 23 August

First team at home to Axminster, 3pm Kick Off

Reserves away to Chard Town, also 3pm kick off.

16 August 2014

First team beat Totnes & Dartington 2 - 1.

Match report from Spurs Tom:-

A good week for Budleigh Salterton F C ended with another South West Peninsular League Division One East victory with the welcome of Totnes and Dartington to Greenway Lane on Saturday, writes SpursTom.
Though kicking against the strong wind, it was the visitors who made the first attacking moves, forcing an early corner and almost beating the offside trap.  However it was not long before the Robins woke up, pressing forward and being rewarded with a brilliant low strike by left back Reece STEVENS on 9 minutes.  The visitors from South Hams counter attacked but found themselves 2 down after 17 minutes.  Men of the Match STEVENS and Karl RIDDELL combined, to find George PANNELL who made no mistake with the opportunity.  On 39 minutes home skipper Josh SALE, was red carded when, as the last defender, he pulled the opponent’s striker back.  Thankfully keeper Alan DOBLE and his defence survived a hectic few minutes to the interval.
Totnes came out of the blocks with the purpose of making the extra man count, attacking with gusto from the off.  The Robins’ resolute rear guard were pegged back in their own half for long periods and playing so well thought it unnecessary to substitute anyone until replacing the very hard-working and understandably tired Reece STEVENS with Ryan HOWELLS.  A converted penalty very late on by substitute Liam COLLINS gave the Tots hope, before they wasted a free kick as the last chance of an equaliser.
Budleigh: DOBLE (g/k), WILSON, STEVENS, RIDDELL, SALE (Capt.), DENNY, PANNELL, WRIGHT, GREENSLADE, WILLIAMS, SHIPTON, HOWELLS, JAMES (unused sub).

First team lose 5 - 1 at home to Brixham Villa, one of the league's newcomers, on an afternoon I am sure most of the Budleigh supporters would rather forget.

Budleigh 1 - 5 Brixham Villa

We again won the Axminster Hospital cup in mid week, albeit with a late Jack Greenslade goal in the first half of extra time.

The reserves do not start their campaign until 23 August, when they entertain Chard Town at Greenway, with a 3pm start.

At present I have no news at all of the fixtures in the Ladies League.  We can only assume that after the tremendous success last year our team wll be in the top flight, assuming they continue with two leagues.  More when I get more.

Budleigh Ladies wish to thank H Carter & Sons for their sponsorship and support, and hope to continue the good relationship.  The girls are looking for more sponsors and players, and would be pleased to hear from any interested parties.
